Anápolis’ Social Nursery provides 40 children, ages 2 through 5, with access to great care and outstanding opportunities. Its staff is formed by professionals in the areas of nutrition, orthodontics, psychology, education, pedagogy, daily-care and more. Not only available to Granol’s associates, the Anápolis’ Social Nursery also provides assistance and opportunities for local families which may not be able to otherwise afford childcare
The main objective of these professionals is to care to and educate the participating children, thus assuring their physical and emotional integrity as well as their social and cognitive development. Moreover, all children are treated with a caring attitude that takes into consideration their experiences and any special needs they may have.
And due to this program’s recognition and local impact, Granol is currently looking to further its initiative’s reach by searching for new partners among local companies whose associates’ children may also benefit from such caring opportunity.
We believe to set an example, one must start at home.
In 2008, Granol promoted a play-day for all its associates, neighbors and friends. It was called “Gincana MobilizAÇÃO Grandiesel” and its main purpose was to collect Used Frying Oil (UFO) and to bring awareness to the initiative. The event remains an example of Granol’s efforts to divulge the importance of a positive environment awareness attitude to all its associates, neighbors and friends. As always, all the collected Used Frying Oil (UFO) was utilized to produce biodiesel, thus ridding the environment of possible damages caused by the mishandling of Used Frying Oil (UFO).
The play-day was welcomed by our associates and completed our efforts and actions focused on collecting Used Frying Oil (UFO), which was then transformed into biodiesel. As part of our Grandiesel Action, many other supermarket chains and their customers, schools, municipalities and commercial partners also participated in our efforts to collect Used Frying Oil (UFO). As a result, after 90 days of continuous actions, there were over 7,000 litters (approximately 2,600 gallons) of Used Frying Oil (UFO) collected and recycled by Granol, its associates and corporate partners.
Our Sustainability Awareness Program, a 15 days program in the end of 2010, was designed to include all of Granol’s associates and its corporate activies. Its main goal was to recruit each one of our associates to become a participant and a promoter of sustainability-based actions and initiatives. Among the different activities presented to the participants was a workshop focused on the evaluation and recognition of the many pillars which encompass the sustainability process and its main goal of promoting sustainable growth as a way of life and not a fad. Such Program also awarded our associates with a new vision and goal of a sustainable society, individuals and planet. Recognized as a success, our Sustainability Awareness Program, rekindled the commitment of many and also recruited new participants, ultimately creating an entire group focused on sustainability efforts and on sustainable growth.
During the 90’s, in partnership with the “FLORA TIETÊ” (Penápolis / SP) and the “PONTAL FLORA” (Pontal do Paranapanema / SP) efforts, Granol initiated an innovative reforesting partnership for these protected territories. With the donation of trees natural to these areas, such as the Eucalyptus and others, this partnership has been providing the area with substantial reforesting resources, eco-friendly materials and with additional employment opportunities.
The eco-efficiency has been a constant effort in our industrial sector for years. Yet, over the past few years, Granol noticed that such efforts should be re-evaluated and broadened to better protect the environment and its resources. Thus, the 3R’S Initiative was created to motivate our administrative associates to collaborate more directly with Granol’s efforts. So, we empowered our associates to become Eco-agents, with attitudes ecologically sustainable, and Eco-spies, with a watchful attitude intended to further expose an eco-friendly attitude and to act proactively to better protect natural resources.
The collected materials are donated to recycling entities that are then responsible for the appropriate utilization of such materials. As such, Granol contributes to the well-being of the environment while creating new employment opportunities. And more, as part of the 3R’s program, Granol also collects Used Frying Oil (UFO) and utilizes it as a key resource in the production of Biodiesel.
